Jean Louise Parrott
Jean Louise Parrott (nee Morphet) passed away in her 95th year, at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital, on October 23, 2019 with family at her side. On August 23, while at home, Jean suffered a stroke and was admitted to hospital. Jean’s strong desire to return home led her to valiantly attempt the rehab program. However, she could not overcome a severe, stroke induced, swallowing impairment. Throughout her time at the hospital, Jean became known for her “beautiful smiles” that endeared her to her caregivers and helped sustain the family. To the end, the kindness and professionalism of the staff who cared for and supported Jean on her final journey, was of immeasurable value to Jean and her family.
Jean was born on December 7, 1924 in Toronto, Ontario. She was the youngest of three children born to John and Mary Louise (nee Fawcett). Jean fondly remembered summers spent in Port Sydney with family and friends during her teens and the early days of her working career. It was here at a Community Hall dance that she met her future husband Frank. The newlyweds initially settled in Toronto. However, changes in Frank’s career brought Jean and young family back to Huntsville, where together they raised their family and built a successful business.
Over the years as a busy mother of four, Jean found outlets for her creative juices in writing, painting, and drawing house plans (some of which were turned into family homes!). She was an exceptional seamstress, tai chi enthusiast and, until her first stroke at age 92, an accomplished bridge player.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Frank, sister Mary Stockton (Ray) and brother Winstone Morphet (Alma). She is survived by children Stephen (Madrie), Louise (Ken), Janice (Robin) and Leslie (Michael). Jean will be missed by her grandchildren Michael, Lauren, Stephanie, Christopher, Alexandre, Katerina, Emma, Holly and by great-grandchildren Violet and Bodhi. News of Jean’s passing saddened her 25 nieces and nephews in the Morphet and Parrott families. She will be mourned by her many friends at Chartwell Traditions which had been Jean’s home for the past 6 years. Her true-blue friend of 80 years, May Harding, is especially feeling the loss.
Following her wishes, a commemoration of Jean’s life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, World Animal Protection Canada or a charity of your choice.
