Dr. M. Barry Young
On January 7, 2021, Michael Barry Young, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 80.
Born on May 27, 1940, Barry grew up in the Kingsway area of Toronto. He attended the University of Toronto and began a career in Dentistry with a practice in the Streetsville community of Mississauga for over 30 years.
Barry is predeceased by his wife and best friend Carole Lee Young. They were married for 50 years and enjoyed family, friends, travel, and cottaging throughout.
Barry leaves behind his 3 children, Brad (Tonya), Scott (Martha) and Allison (Brian). He will be remembered fondly as Poppa Bare to his 5 grandchildren, Thomas, Nicholas, Winston, Harry and Bridget.
He also leaves behind his sister Barbara (Chuck) in the Turks and Caicos.
Barry was known as an avid sports fan. He loved golf and made great friends through the game. He was also a club champion curler at the Mississaugua Golf & Country Club. He enjoyed watching baseball and hockey, and never wavered from his dedication to the home team.
Barry enjoyed his many friends, but also made quick friendships wherever he went. As he got older, he needed to walk with a cane, and took great pride in his unique walking stick which was always a wonderful conversation starter.
He loved to travel and had a special place in his heart for all things Irish; the landscape, the music, the culture, and the beer.
He made a hobby out of driving and enjoyed simple pleasures like scrapbooking, reading, and watching classic films. He never missed the weekly word jumble, and always got a kick out of every Far Side cartoon.
Barry passed away from kidney failure without any prolonged pain, thanks to staff at Muskoka Algonquin Health Care Huntsville Hospital. He did not have Covid-19.
We will look to celebrate his life when friends and family can once again come together. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Muskoka Conservancy.
