Gordon "Darrel" Lawson

The family of Gordon “Darrel” Lawson is sad to announce his passing on Monday November 29, 2021 at Muskoka Landing, Huntsville after a brief illness with pneumonia.  Darrel is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy, daughter Catherine (Andrew), grandchildren Ashley (Peter), and Drew (Cassandra).  As well as three lovely great granddaughters.  His son Darwin predeceased him.

Darrel was born in Bass River, Nova Scotia and never lost his desire to return.  He came to Ontario with his brother-in-law and found work in Sudbury.  There he met and married Peggy in 1961.  Soon Bell Canada transferred Darrel temporarily to Huntsville where it eventually became permanent. During those years he helped coach minor hockey, and the first girls baseball team.  He was also a very involved and dedicated member of Rebeccah and Oddfellows as well as all the various branches.  After retirement, Darrel volunteered around the community helping with the Salvation Army Kettles at Christmas and collecting the money from the dogs for the Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Darrel was an extrovert and always loved to stop for a chat, joke and a laugh.  He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  When it became apparent that he was suffering from dementia it was very difficult for his family to watch him slowly disappear. He was in the end stages of his disease when he developed pneumonia.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no service.  Due to covid restrictions a small family get together for remembrance was held.  Donations to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation or the Diabetes Society would be appreciated by the family.
