Jill M. Goldthorp

Jill M. Goldthorp (née Rastall)

February 7, 1940 - October 2, 2022

Jill passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Victoria Village in Barrie, Ontario, after a valiant yet graceful fight against her cancer relapse, bringing to a close her prolonged struggle with progressive dementia.

Jill now joins her siblings Don Rastall, Joan Loxton and twin brother, Jack Rastall, who predeceased her, along with her late husband, Calvin, her partner later in life, Gordon Daw, sisters-in-law Marilyn Goldthorp Bain and Irene Rastall, brother-in-law Brian Goldthorp, her nephew and nieces Bryan Bain, Cheryl Bain O’Brien and Leah Rastall, and her parents, Ernest Rastall and Marion Hollingshead Rastall. Jill is survived by her sons Kevin Goldthorp (Jack Doolittle) and Kirk Goldthorp (Kerri Morris) and grandchildren Easlin, Marc, and Julia (and their mother Diane Mendes de Franca), and Hayden and Kieran, along with sister-in-law Jackie Rastall and brother-in-law Bryan Loxton, and nieces and nephews Charles Rastall and Mari-Helen Rastall Primeau (Tom), Alison Loxton (Terry) and Robert Loxton (Anne), and Lilly Bain.

Jill was devoted to her community and was an active volunteer for many years with a number of grassroots community efforts, including the Order of the Eastern Star and Muskoka Shrine Club. In addition to raising her family, Jill worked in healthcare administration where she combined a desire to use her mind with the purpose of helping others. Determined and with a will of steel, she embodied both the pioneer roots of her mother and the determination to survive of her adopted father. She was known for her kindness and caring for others, whether through her love of dogs or quiet attention to neighbours and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 11:30am, at All Saints Anglican Church. Regrettably, due to Covid-era complications, there will not be a reception.

Commemorating Jill’s dedicated service to both Fairvern and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be through gifts to Huntsville Hospital Foundation or another charity meaningful to you.
