Verna W. Simioni (nee Birtch)

Verna passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Fairvern Long Term Care in Huntsville.

She was predeceased by her husband Jack (April 16, 1991) along with her siblings Helen, Irene, Hazel, Ruby, Shirley, and Barbara.

She is survived by children; Sandra (Larry Cochrane), Jack Simioni (Dawn), Nancy (Hugh Stevenson) and Gary Simioni (Pam Bice Nelson).  Along with her sister Audrey Nelson, Fern (Bill Jennings), June (Bill Lozinski), Jack Birtch (Toni) and sister -in-law Norma Simioni.  Grandmother to 10 and great-grandmother to 11 (1 predeceased).  Verna will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews.

In addition to raising her family, Verna was employed at the T. Eaton Co. for 34 years.  She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and a member of the CWL for 60 plus years.  Verna was a person of deep faith and service to her family and many friends.

In her retirement, Verna loved to visit with all her family including several trips to family in Alberta and British Columbia.  She joined the Huntsville Curling Club, supported Friends of Fairvern, volunteered at the Breakfast Club at Huntsville Public School and the Rosary program at St. Mary’s School.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed mystery novels. Whenever possible she played euchre with her friends.

Verna took pride in keeping her home spotless.  She also loved to bake muffins and butter tarts and every autumn made her special relish and pickles for her family and friends.

Verna loved the family pets and greatly enjoyed any opportunity to Babysit them.  For 19 years she loved and spoiled her feisty cat “Mickey”.

The family would like to thank Dr. O’Halloran and the staff at Fairvern for the excellent care and compassion given to our mother, and to the ladies of the CWL for the many cards of caring thoughts and prayers.

Visitation for Verna Simioni will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 High Street, Huntsville on Tuesday, November 22, from 1-3 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 12 Centre Street, North, Huntsville on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 10 a.m. The burial will take place in the spring of 2023.

A reception will follow the mass in St. Mary’s Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, Fairvern Nursing Home, or the Canadian Cancer Society, would be appreciated by the family
