Douglas Robert (ROB) Millman

A Celebration of Life will be held May 7th2022 one pm, at Lakeview Senior’s Centre Dwight On.  We will tell stories, joke, pray and listen to Doug’s music and share Doug’s favourite comfort foods.  Please feel free to let others know of this event and join us if you are able.

Doug or Rob  as he preferred to be called later years, left us after a brief, but devastating illness, at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.

Doug has left behind his beloved wife, Gloria, his cherished children and grandchildren from his first marriage, Creed, Thea (Andre) and Silka; his grandchildren Cleeante and LacCoste.  Gloria’s family of five and grandchildren who called him Dad, Doug and Grandpa, Gebrielle (Ken), Kristopher (Claire), David, Searse and Dale: grandchildren Adrian (Jordan) Alex, Leah, Caden, Kris, Connor, Emily and great-granddaughter Kyrie.

Professionally, Doug  was associated with several engineering firms, designing highway interchanges,  and water catchment systems, latterly with the District of Muskoka. He was well respected and sought after in his field.

Doug was the ultimate sports fan, theatre lover and arts supporter.  He was intensely involved in Ontarians with Disabilities Assoc. Parry Sound Muskoka Mental Health, seconded to assist in revising the section of the Ontario Building Code which focused on accessibility for all.  He was part of many volunteer Boards which focused on Human Rights and needs.  He was social justice activist and ardent Letter to the Editor Writer, (Liz, did you have to publish ALL of them?)

As Doug’s wife, I will speak personally to thank the Emerg Staff at Huntsville Hospital for their care and concern when he first fell ill. To the ICU staff and the step down staff on Surg Three at RVH, you have my gratitude forever for the care and love you showed to my husband. Doug’s eyes were accepted by Trillium for medical research.

Arrangements have been left to Mitchell Funeral Home in Huntsville. Doug has been cremated and his ashes will be placed in a place he loved to be.

I still do not believe that I will never again see your face.  My Love, I am sharing a poem which is giving me comfort and hope: may it help others as well.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
