Alexander "Al" Richmond Robertson
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Al Robertson.
Al Robertson, loving husband of Laurelle Robertson (Tremblay) passed away peacefully, at the age of 88, surrounded by family at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital on May 13, 2023. He was born October 6th, 1934, in Schumacher, Ontario and was the only son of George and Grace Robertson. Al leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, as well as his two sons Paul (Lea) and Scott. He is predeceased by his eldest son Kevin and daughter Jill (Wayne). He will be greatly missed by his loving grandchildren Matt, Sarah (Trevor), Shelby and Kristy (Keith). He will also be missed by his wife’s extended family.
Al grew up in Schumacher and worked a dedicated career at Ontario Hydro for over 40 years. He was moved to Mattawa in the 50’s where he met his beautiful wife. They started a family and settled in Huntsville in 1970 after living in New Liskeard and Woodstock. He loved his children more than anything and was a role model and mentor to them all. Al taught his children sportsmanship, commitment, and dedication in all aspects of life. His love of fishing, baseball and poker was passed on to all of them. Soon after moving to Huntsville, Al got involved in the sports scene and did not stop until his 80’s. Al was a pillar of Huntsville’s sport community and spent all of his life officiating hockey and baseball. He will be fondly remembered by everyone whose lives he touched on the diamond and the rink.
We would like to thank Dr. Rea and the staff at both South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital for their care.
Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 High Street, Huntsville on Wednesday May 17th from 6-8 pm and May 18th from 1-2, with a service to follow on May 18th at 2p.m..
As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Huntsville Hospital Foundation.
A small excerpt from a poem written to him from Huntsville Ladies Softball;
“Here’s to dear old Alex,
With a heart so kind and true,
He called the games as he saw them,
And did a damn good job too”
