Jaromir Alois "Jerry" Polach
Now at home with his Lord, Jerry Polach passed away peacefully in Huntsville, Ont at the age of 89 years in the comfort of his wife and surrounded by his family.
Devoted husband to Irene for 63 years. Loving father to Michele (Paul), Craig (Janette) and Kevin (Tannis). Proud grandfather to Nicole (David), Joshua (Laura), Christopher (Denise), Olivia (fiancé Levi), Nicholas (Michaela), Andrew (Jasmine), Jonathan and Daniel and his seven great-grandchildren. Jerry was predeceased by his parents Jaromir and Anna, his sister Vera (Ludek) and his grandson Jacob. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and many friends.
Born in the village of Dlha Luka, Slovakia the family emigrated to Timmins before moving Toronto in 1939. His early years were spent working in the family bakery making deliveries on his bicycle. After graduating from North Toronto Collegiate he enrolled at Dominion College and then Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in the Retail Merchandising program.
Upon his graduation in 1956, Jerry started working for the T. Eaton Company in the Budget store, progressing through various roles which ultimately culminated with his appointment as a Senior Vice President, retiring in 1996 after 40 years.
Jerry enjoyed being active through out his life in church, including teaching, serving as deacon and choir director. He undertook a leadership role in the establishment of Fellowship Towers in Toronto, and was instrumental in the merging of Central Baptist Seminary (Toronto) and London Baptist Bible College to become Heritage Baptist College & Seminary in Cambridge Ontario, serving as Board Chair.
A memorial service will be held at Hespeler Baptist Church in Cambridge on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gampela Centre, through the Hope Story website (www.hopestory.ca).
