Glen Card

Card, Glen

The death occurred at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, Bracebridge on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 of Glen Card.

Morley Glen Card was born on Jan 18, 1948 in Huntsville to Morley and Erma Card. He was the fourth of ten children. Betty (deceased) (Harvey), Shirley (Joe), Yvonne (deceased), (Glen), Morris (Diane), Leona, Neil (Pat), Kathy- (deceased) (Reg), Ken (deceased), and Charlene (Paul).

Glen leaves behind his wife Dale (they married October 15th, 1994), and their son Brent (Ashley); his step children - Dawn (Norm), Lesley Ann (Todd); his in-laws - Marie, Ken (Janine); his children: Khristine, Glenda, Lisa, Ian; and many grand-children and nieces and nephews who thought a lot of him.  Glen was predeceased by his parents as well as his father & mother-in-law Melvin & Gertrude Stevenson.

Glens’ working life started with logging and farming, a stint at Ideal Algonquin (where he lost a finger!), and time as a janitor at V. K. Greer Public school, but it was spent mostly in the construction equipment industry as a labourer, driver, operator, and mechanic for employers including Aitkin & Parlett, and the Township of Haliburton Highlands (out of Dorset) where he started as a labourer and ended up as Roads Foreman. He worked for Bordie Boothby, Lake of Bays Township, and Barnharts Sand & Gravel. At one point, Glen had a backhoe and a truck, and worked for himself. He also drove a tow truck for Holotuk for a while.

It’s no surprise with this transportation background to hear that he loved riding his motorcycle and enjoyed welding, but his best times were being with his family and enjoying many family gatherings. He was also a great baker, so we know what he contributed to the pot lucks!

In January 2013, Glen went into hospital for a valve replacement and triple bypass. Before he could leave the hospital, he suffered a stroke that left him unable to work and changed his life dramatically. Dale and Glen moved in with Dale’s father (Mel Stevenson) in 2017 to help as he was aging and showing signs of dementia. Dale’s dad eventually had to move into Muskoka Shores, and Glen spent his last few months there as well. The family appreciates the care and compassion of their staff during this time.

While the latter years of his life were difficult Glen’s family will recall him through a treasury of earlier memories and happier days.

A Reception will be held at the Mitchell Funeral Home, reception centre on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 1 - 3 pm. At 2:30 everyone will be invited into the chapel for remembrances.

In memory of Glen donations may be made to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation
