Gary Hyndman Acker

Gary Hyndman

July 21, 1938 - May 29, 2020

Gary Hyndman Acker passed away peacefully at his Otter Lake, Dorset home on Friday, May 29th.  Beloved husband of Nita (nee Gardner) of 51 years and loving father to Ryan of Sprucedale and Melanie (Craig Welcher) of Toronto.  Proud grandfather to Melanie & Craig's children Kyla and Gardner.  Dear brother to Sharon Elkington (Peter - deceased) and Uncle to Sharon's daughters Kirsten and Gillian.  Dear brother-in-law to Lorna Embrey (Gregg) and Donna Mitchell (Brian) and Uncle to Donna & Brian's daughters Andrea and Lisa.  Pre-deceased by parents Jim & Aileen of Toronto and Father & Mother-in-law Reginald & Evelyn Gardner of Churchill, Ontario.

Gary was born and grew up in Toronto, making the Dorset area his home for the last 16 years of his life.  He was a successful advertising account executive in Toronto, was very involved as the Akela and leader in his son's Scout groups and in his daughter's endeavours in synchronized swimming.

Gary was blessed with a rich baritone voice and sang in Gilbert & Sullivan and Off-Broadway musicals, along with Nita, for several years in North York with the Yorkminstrels Theatre Company.

His other passions were alpine skiing, football, fishing, literature and music.  He loved cooking as well and was extremely good at creating unique culinary dishes which were enjoyed by his family and many friends.  His love of music and cooking definitely were passed along to his children, Ryan and Melanie.

While living in the Dorset area, Gary was President of the Dorset Lions 2009/2010 and President of the Otter Lake Cottagers Association for 10 years.

Gary once wrote that he "had been enriched, replenished and magnificently fulfilled by each and every one" (family and friends).  He will be missed.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so.

Condolences can be mailed to PO Box 55, Dorset, ON  P0A 1E0 or online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.ca.

As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made in memory of Gary to a charity of your choice.
