Jeanette June Martin (nee Smusiak)

Peacefully at Algonquin Grace Hospice Huntsville on Thursday, March 20, 2025, June passed away in her 94th year, surrounded by her daughters. She was predeceased (2022) by her loving husband of 69 years, Ernie Martin.

Born on June 19, 1931, June was raised in Highland Creek by her Ukrainian parents Lena (nee Gluckie) and Paul Smusiak, along with her big brothers Mitch, Steve and Joe (all predeceased).

Loving mother of Donna (Rick) Sidey, Debbie (Steve) Bradley and Dianne (John) Terry. Cherished grandmother of Pamela Sidey (Patrick Welsh), Alexandra Sidey, Richard Sidey, Stefanie Bradley, Dustin (Nicole) Bradley, Chris (Chelsey) Terry, Caitlin Terry (Matthew George) and great grandmother to Teddy, Willa, and Riley Welsh, Leah, Mya, and Jaxon Bradley, and Brooks Terry. June will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours on Foxpoint and Dairy Lane.

Family was the most important thing to June, and everything she did was for them. She had a close, loving relationship with her mother and aunties, who taught her to garden, cook, and sew. June was just as close with her three girls - Donna, Debbie and Dianne - and she adored being a wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother.

Long time residents of Bramalea, June and Ernie also had a cottage on Lake of Bays, eventually retiring there. Grandma Junie, as she was known to her grandchildren, was the heart and soul of their childhood and summers at the cottage. She is a cherished part of every memory - and every bite of pedaheh.

June was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors. She was also a talented seamstress, sewing hundreds of costumes and clothes for her grandchildren. In her younger years, she loved music, dancing, summers at the lake, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, baseball, and bowling.

A special thank you to the kind and compassionate care of the staff at Muskoka Landing Long Term Care and exceptional end of life care provided by Algonquin Grace Hospice Huntsville in her final days.

Friends and family will be received at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 High Street, Huntsville, Ontario. Visitation is on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 pm and Wednesday, March 26, 2025 from 12:00-1:00 pm followed by a funeral service in the chapel at Mitchell Funeral Home at 1:00 pm.
